I'm popping my head up to check in here. I'm busy busy busy even though I haven't moved from this spot in about 10 days. My butt is flat from sitting and my nose is stuffed from the flu or something nasty. I'm actually not too upset about being sick because I thought I was starting to have hot flashes but it turned out I was coming down with something. I've never been so happy to find out I was sick.
I drew the number for the calendar give away and actually almost panicked when I realized I had drawn my friend Jamie. I always feel weird when I draw someone I know but this was even weirder since Jamie and I live nearby and have 3 hour fabric chats over coffee on a somewhat regular basis. So anyway, I decided I would feel awful if I picked another one just because I was afraid folks would think I was playing favorites but I'm backing it up with the screen capture as proof and Jamie gets the calendar (which actually makes me happy because now I have another excuse to get together for coffee). Yay Jamie!

Here's what I've been working on. It never occurred to me that I would end up creating the covers for my patterns but here I am. I was really stressed about having to get models together, having their hair perfect, finding matching shoes without spending a fortune, keeping them from (gasp) sitting in the outfits, and then hoping for one nice picture out of they batch (and then having to re-start the process if something went wrong). I decided to try to create my own covers based on the look of a vintage cover I've had pinned on my bulletin board forever.
Here's the first finished one I finished (I'm on the third one now with one more to go). I really love it and am thrilled with how much it feels like "me". The color is more turquoise than aqua (my monitor is making it look greenish) and the logo is based on my teal mirror (from one of my earliest blog posts).
So I'm going to be scarce for another couple of weeks because my goal is to have 4 complete patterns ready to go to the printer by the end of next week. It's been a lengthy (and somewhat excruciating) journey, but I am so close and I'm pouring everything I have into getting past that finish line. I'm not getting new fabrics in the store right now because I can't juggle everything and with the kids all heading back to school (including homeschooling) I'm having to make the patterns a priority for now. I'm a bit emotional about not getting more fabric right now but I had to suck it up and make a hard decision.
But I've decided to do something fun (if you live in the Phoenix area you'll think it's fun!) and have an actual sale here in the store (in person!). I'm opening the house this Saturday for folks who want to come shop (be warned...I will try to recruit you for the Phoenix Modern Quilt Guild) and having some great deals including all the out of print pieces I've been hoarding for some time. If you want info just email me at [email protected] and I'll email a flyer to you. I'm really looking forward to seeing folks face to face. And don't worry, I'm no longer contagious.
